Homeschool Physical Education
ON PAUSE
A functional movement Physical Education class for homeschoolers that focuses on teaching students how to move their bodies efficiently, safely, and with purpose, mimicking real-life actions rather than focusing solely on competitive sports. This type of PE builds strength, balance, coordination, and confidence for daily life and long-term health.
-
Classes generally revolve around seven foundational movements: squatting, lunging, pushing, pulling, hinging, twisting, and walking/running.
-
Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS): Activities focus on building motor skills, body management, and coordination (e.g., jumping, skipping, balancing, object control like throwing/catching).
-
Game-Based Learning: Rather than drills, movements are often taught through play.
-
Injury Prevention & Mobility: Sessions emphasize proper technique to prevent injury and include stretching, balance exercises, and core strengthening.
-
Education Component: Students learn why they are moving, connecting physical activity to anatomy, physiology, and nutrition.
